How To Beautifully Decorate A Mid-Century Modern Dresser

We recently bought this dresser from Wayfair that we had been eyeing for weeks and we are SO HAPPY we decided to buy it because it is a gorgeous piece of furniture. It’s actually a dupe of this West Elm dresser for half the price. The quality is SO GOOD. Dresser, check. Now what? I wanted to add elements of both functionality and beauty. With that, here’s how I decorated our mid-century modern dresser.

Functionality

Think of the things you grab most frequently in your day to day life. Is it your perfume? Jewelry? Hand cream? Hair accessories? Decide what those things are and buy products that can hold those things. For me, I needed a place for my hair ties and clips, perfume, cream, necklace, and my boyfriend’s watches. Try to buy items that are different in height, it adds more depth that way.

These are the items I purchased:

This adorable marble bowl from World Market. It says it’s pink but it’s 100% a coral color. This is where I put my hair ties and clips.

I wanted a small tray specifically for my perfume and hand cream, and this tiny tray was perfect. Doesn’t this just scream mid-century modern dresser vibes or is it just me?! You can also buy a big tray (even ones meant for serving), and use it to place items on.

My boyfriend has 4 watches that he alternates between, and we went with this watch holder which fits all of his watches and is extremely affordable. I’m talking under $10 affordable.

Beauty

Ah, candles…my favorite topic. Right now I have a Threshold candle from Target, but I typically get big chunky candles from HomeGoods and TJ Maxx. If you know, you know.

I also bought this black tray to have as a back up but also put my vases on in the meantime, but you really don’t need a tray just for the vases. However I do LOVE how this looks.

I’ll admit I never thought I’d be the person to put vases on my dresser but…here we are. I actually DIY’ed these vases myself! I bought vases from the dollar store and painted them to fit the aesthetic I wanted. You can read the easy step by step guide on how I did this in my post DIY: How I Transformed $1 Vases Into Beautiful Decorative Pieces. If you’re thinking “ugh I don’t wanna DIY“, there are a ton of vases on Amazon, Target, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, and so on.

Above the Dresser

The space above your dresser is also where you can keep it simple or get really creative. You can hang a mirror and call it a day, or you can do a gallery of sorts. Whether it be art prints or personal photos, you can totally customize this. We decided to do a photo gallery wall and I am obsessed. I stare at the pictures every night as we’re getting into bed.
