An Amazing Classic Red Sangria Recipe You Need In Your Life

Sunday sangria am I right?! I played around with this recipe a ton before feeling like it was delicious and perfect enough to share with all of you! I will preface this recipe by saying that I use A LOT of fruit and I think it makes it that much better. You can also adjust based on your personal preference. I’ll make sure to note some hot tips and tricks in this post. Without waiting any longer, here is an amazing classic red sangria recipe you need to try right now.

Red Sangria Recipe

Serves: 4-5 glasses (for you or your guests, judgement free zone here)

Ingredients:

1 bottle red wine
3/4 cup triple sec
1/4 cup simple syrup
1 large naval orange
1 blood orange
2 lemons
2 limes
1 honey crisp apple
1/2 green apple
1 white peach
2 cinnamon sticks
Lemon or lime soda, optional and used to top off when serving
Ice

HOT TIPS:

  • If you plan on letting it sit overnight, only use half the fruit listed above so that it doesn’t become too bitter
  • Put ice at the bottom of the pitcher (I always forget this one)
  • If it’s too sweet, cut it with some lime soda.
  • Too bitter? Add in more simple syrup in tablespoon increments.
  • Aaaaaand if it’s too bitter/citrusy, add in lime soda to water it down or simple syrup to make it sweeter.

Instructions:

1. Add ice to a pitcher.

2. Cut all of your fruit in whichever way you want. I cut the larger fruit like the orange into little quarters, the smaller fruit like the limes and lemons into half moon shapes, and the apples and peach into quarter moon shapes. This doesn’t affect the recipe at all either way, cut your fruit whichever way you prefer! Add all of your fruit to the pitcher.

3. Muddle your fruit for a few minutes using a muddler, wooden spoon, end of rolling pin, whatever you have!

4. Pour that beautiful big bottle of red wine into your pitcher. We used Garnacha because a Spanish wine is preferred when making sangria. Check out The 5 Best Red Wines for Sangria here.

5. Add in triple sec and simple syrup. Stir well and do some quality control, AKA taste it!

6. You can serve immediately or leave it overnight to soak in all the fruit. Note that if you leave it overnight, you’ll want to use half the lemons/lime and you may need to add more simple syrup or lime soda as it’s going to be a bit more bitter.

7. In a glass, add more cut up fruit and ice. Pour sangria almost all the way full. Top off with lemon or lime soda (optional) and cinnamon stick. The cinnamon stick add such a nice kick to it, don’t skip it! Unless you hate cinnamon then I guess you can skip it.
