Winc Membership: My Honest Review After One Year

Ok so. A wine subscription sounds…over the top and bougie right? Not when the wine is high quality and you’re actually saving tons of money. Stay with me. About a year ago we made the decision to subscribe to a Winc Membership and to this day we still get our wine only from Winc. I’m not one for subscription programs (aside from TV and Amazon Prime) but Winc is SO good and it is so beyond worth the money. Here’s a breakdown of how it works and all of the reasons why we love our Winc membership…

BTW…scroll down to the conclusion to find out how you can get a free box of 3-4 bottles 🙂

What is it?

Winc is a “wine club” or wine subscription service that lets you curate a box of wine to your liking every month. They offer everything from limited edition blends to every day classics and they only work with independent winemakers and growers to deliver the best and most unique taste. The subscription is monthly but you can also choose to skip a month if you want – and you can cancel anytime without penalty!

Oh and…not that this is make or break but apparently a lot of people put weight on this…their labels are SO COOL. Look at this Big Beat Red Blend below that we opened for Valentine’s Day. Can you even?!

How It Works

When you first visit Winc, it’ll put you through a palette profile test which basically helps Winc figure out which types of wines you like – how you like your coffee, do you like salt, do you eat berries, what’s your citrus preference, etc.

Then, it’ll recommend wines based on your preferences and curates a box of 3-4 bottles. Keep in mind, you do not have to go with their recommendations and can choose your own. I used their recommendations in the beginning because it was super helpful but now I choose all of my wines myself.

Once you check out, it signs you up for a membership which you can cancel any time. The membership costs $60 per month that are filled in “credits”. You can then use these credits to buy your wines each month, or more/less frequently. Keep reading for full details of membership/payment options.

High Quality + Unique

Ok this wine is HIGH. QUALITY. Like I said they work with independent winemakers and growers in order to keep their high quality and incredible uniqueness. Winc also produces wine in smaller batches to create a one-of-a-kind experience with every blend. They have their classic blends, and on top of that they are always rotating wines or coming out with new blends which is something I really love because it means you never get bored. You’ll never say “ugh but I’ve already tried allllll of these”. It’s like wine Christmas every time they come out with a new blend and you can sign up for notifications so you never miss a beat.

Affordable

Off the bat, you get a discount for life on all their bottles by becoming a member. In my lifetime (28 years lol) I’ve tasted both $10 bottles and $100 bottles and I’m telling you Winc wine tastes expensive but comes at a low cost. Most of their bottles are between $10 and $20, with some going for higher prices. Overall, I usually end up spending around $50-$60 per a box of 4 bottles. Paying that amount, skipping the liquor store, and getting high quality wine is SO worth it.

Customizable Experience

Just because they operate under the premise that uniqueness is important doesn’t mean that they don’t have classic blends too. They have their limited edition rotating blends, but they also have every type of classic wine like Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, and Rosé. This allows you to stick with your favorites, or get out of your comfort zones and switch it up. You can always customize your box to do a mix of both too.

This is currently what we have on hand…

Another option that Winc offers is for you to let them choose your wine for you based on your initial preference quiz. This gives you the opportunity to just sit back and enjoy the wine when it gets shipped to your door.

Flexible Payment Terms

Winc’s membership program is $60 per month and the money is given to you in the form of “credits”, which is just their term for dollar amount. With these credits you can buy your wines, and you can buy more or less depending on what you want/need. I always order 4 wines minimum each month because 4 bottles gets you free shipping. NOW here is where it gets good. Unlike most subscription services, Winc lets you skip a month or months of being charged whenever you want. So, if you know you won’t be home for a long period of time or have just way too much wine already (is that even a thing?), then you can skip with zero fee or penalty.

The option to skip a month or two is super convenient. Last year around Christmas time we went back to the east coast to see our families for two months and we skipped both months. When we came back, we jumped right back in it. On the other hand, when we went on our trip to Australia we wanted the option to splurge and stock up when we came back, so we kept our subscription running and we came home to $120 worth of credits to spend :). This is what we did with those credits…
