Who looooooves a good marg? Me me and meeeee. I wanted to stray away from the classic margarita recipe and for some reason blood oranges were just calling my name. My boyfriend and I went to whole foods and they were REALLY calling my name because they were so big and looked so juicy. Here’s how to make this incredible and refreshing blood orange mint margarita…
Serves: 1
Ingredients:
Juice of 1 large blood orange
3 mint leaves
2.5oz tequila
1oz lime juice
1.5oz simple syrup
Ice
Coarse salt for rim, optional
Instructions:
This is a short, sweet, keep it simple kind of recipe. There are two ways you can make this margarita – either frozen or on the rocks. I made it frozen and it was delicious. Here’s how to make it…
Frozen Blood Orange Mint Margarita
Place all of your ingredients in a blender, add about 6-8 ice cubes and blend well until mint is fully broken down. Pour into your glass. See below for how to make your salt rim.
On the Rocks Blood Orange Mint Margarita
Muddle your mint in a shaker. Add the rest of your ingredients into the shaker (or two pint glasses together, or a protein shaker, whatever works), and shake for about 30 seconds. Strain it into your glass over ice. See below for how to make your salt rim.
How To Make The Salt Rim
I will preface these two methods by saying – please DO NOT use iodized table salt for the salt rim – it will not taste good.
Method 1: Place coarse kosher salt (you can get some here) on a flat plate. Cut a lime (or lemon) wedge in the center all the way up to the peel and place it on the rim of the glass, sliding it all the way around to cover the rim with lime juice. Dip the rim of the glass straight down into the salt, or you can dip it parallel to the plate if you want a thicker salt rim, like the one pictured below!
Method 2: Place coarse kosher salt (you can get some here) on a flat plate or bowl. Add lime juice to a separate plate or bowl. Dip in the rim of your glass into the lime juice first, then dip it in the salt, and voila!
What I Used For This Recipe:
- Coarse kosher salt – cheap and super fast shipping
- These glasses – I use them for a ton of different cocktails! (check out my full roundup of cocktail glasses here, there are some great marg ones)
- Plates for salt rim – these are our go to and they are so easy to clean
