This is a post for the moment pictured above: taking a break in the middle of a hike, plopping your butt down, and having a snack (not visible in photo but trussssst me I had one). Even if you have a big meal before a hike, you never know how your body is going to react to changing environments and changing elevation. Make sure you’re prepared with energy packed hiking snacks so that you don’t run out of steam! Whether you want to keep trekking and snack, or want to sit down and take a break before continuing on (hi, me), don’t forget to pack some fuel. Here are my top picks…
Energy Bar
Perfect Bar has a ton of different flavors and they are all so delicious. It’s easy to carry around, and you really only need a few bites to get some energy in. Check out their variety pack.
Nuts
Tried and true, nuts are a fantastic source of protein. Make sure to grab unsalted nuts so that you don’t become even more dehydrated while hiking. Happy Belly has a mixed nuts bag that includes walnuts, almonds, and cashews. This brand also has a ton of other different mixes.
Something Sweet
If you are a gummy bear person (is that a thing?), these PROBAR Energy Chews are perfect for you.
Larabar
Simple, easy, can’t go wrong – Larabar fruit and nut bars have MINIMAL ingredients. Their banana bread bar has just three ingredients – almonds, dates, unsweetened bananas. Boom.
Granola
Another classic snack is granola. Picky Bars offers unique but delicious granola option with their PB&J All Day and Sassy Molassy Performance Granolas.
Energy Balls
I’ve seen so many recipes online for home made energy balls and kudos to everyone who makes them. As an alternative, The Gluten Free Bar Store has Dark Chocolate Coconut Protein Bites that are a perfect togo hiking snack.
Fig Bars
My personal favorite – fig bars. I’m a Fig Newton or Nature’s Bakery kind of person. AKA I don’t discriminate when it comes to fig bars. Nature’s Bakery Blueberry Fig Bars are just so damn good.
